The pastor Sonny Arguinzoni

Living the life of faith and healing that he is now, people might be surprised to hear that he was once one of the lost. Living in the underworld of New York and struggling to live in the rough estates. Do you want to know more about Sonny, his past and his redemption? Then you may be interested in reading on. We show you how he came back to God through suffering and redeeming himself.

In The Beginning

At the start of his journey back to God, Sonny was in a very bad place. His story as told in Sonny the Book, shows that he was at his very lowest ebb when God reached out to him. The story starts in his apartment in New York. Where he is aching for a fix and waiting for someone to return with his drug. He is desperate for more heroin, and is struggling to survive as craving takes control.

He shows us his life, as gang membership and jail time starts to destroy his life. Also he spends his time getting high, or spending time in jail. And it seems as though there is no way that he will get free of his addiction. He shows us how his friends have become ruins of their former selves. With nothing but addiction to bind them to the others. Then, from out of nowhere, he meets a former addict. A friend who has found God, and discovered a way out of his dual prisons of addiction and crime.

Turning To God

At first, Sonny is skeptical of faith and its potential for change. But he attended a Teen Challenge group, founded by the late David Wilkerson. This preacher, who had started his work in New York City in the 1950s, was able to reach teen addicts around the state. Sonny was one of the first to get clean. “Won to the lord at teen challenge” by listening to Wilkerson talk. And was able to rediscover his faith through the teachings of God and the preaching of Wilkerson.

Although he was affected by the preaching, it still took a long time for him to get himself free of his addiction. Gradually, he took the steps needed to overtake his craving for heroin. He then replace it with a love of God, and for God’s word. He believed, and was rewarded with a vision. Which promised him that he would receive all the treasures of darkness. A promise which Sonny believes has been fulfilled through the founding of Victory Outreach. Where the outcasts of society are formed into treasures through faith and belief.

The Work Of Victory Outreach

Sonny had been brought out of addiction, and then graduated from the LA Latin Bible Institute. Where he had also met Julie, later to be his wife. He founded his first church in LA, near Boyle Heights. Often seen as one of the places where drugs and crime were rife. In fact, many people called that first mission “The Addict Church“.

Most of his church members were addicts and gang members, and Sonny realized that it would be his mission to raise up these people within their own neighborhoods, showing those around them that faith could save anyone. With that mission in mind, Sonny started to bring his church members into his own home, and from there, the Victory Outreach mission bloomed.

The Expansion Of Victory Outreach And Sonny Arguinzoni

From that tiny bloom in an east Los Angeles ghetto, Sonny Arguinzoni has turned his mission into an international church, calling on followers to redeem themselves and grow stronger. He and his wife now have churches in many countries, stretching across the globe from Mexico to the Philippines, and with European countries like Holland in between.

Julie, Sonny’s wife, is the leader of a group program for women, including many who have escaped drugs, prostitution and gang lifestyles. Alongside their children, including Sonny Jr., the Victory Outreach mission has reached hundreds of thousands of lost souls, who would otherwise never have turned their faith towards God.

Each year, at least 10,000 men and women go into recovery homes founded by Victory Outreach. Working in the middle of groups of gangs, and facing the threat of violence, Sonny has worked tirelessly to promote Victory Outreach, and the healing power of faith.
